4 Fun Activities To Do With Kids For Thanksgiving

4 fun activities to do with kids for thanksgiving

It’s that time again. Summer has come and gone and Fall has arrived. The beginning of cool air and breezes outside let us know that the holidays are on the way.

That time of the year that we have pumpkins and fall décor on our front porch, reminds us that another Thanksgiving is almost here.

I really enjoy this time of year, the cooler weather, and the beautiful changes of the trees as fall arrives and winter is right around the corner.

While we should be thankful all year. Thanksgiving gives us a time to reflect on our year and the many blessings God has given us.

1st Chronicles 16:34

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.

I really enjoy the traditions of Thanksgiving.

Step 10- Glue feathers and eyes to headband.

Now you have some little turkeys running around having a great time with their creation and imagination.

NUTTER BUTTER COOKIE TURKEY

Nutter butter cookies are super easy to make and so delicious. Well from what I can remember.

I have been on a gluten-free diet for over 7 years now because of Hashimoto’s.

However, from the action of my kids. They acted like these guys were the greatest things to eat.

Of course, making food crafts before eating lunch might have something to do with it.

Supplies you will need to make nutter butter cookie turkeys.

  1. Nutter butter cookies

  2. Some other cookies for the wings. We used fudge striped shortbread cookies. Any cookie should work.

  3. Cake jells

  4. Gummy worms (candy corn can be used for the comb of the turkey. However, apparently, it’s seasonal and can only be found around Halloween.

  5. Who knew?

Well maybe you did already but I learned something yesterday. I don’t buy candy corn too often.

Step 1- Lay the cookie of your choice down for turkey wings.

Step 2- Put a nutter butter cookie on top of it for the turkey body.

Step 3- Cut up yellow and pink gummy worms.

Step 4- Use cake jell like glue. Put a drop of cake jell and add a piece of gummy worm for the beak, onto the cookie.

Step 5- Next put more jell on the top of the nutter butter cookie for gluing the other gummy worms down to make the turkey comb.

Step 6- Lastly add cake jell on the cookie for the eyes. You can either just use the cake jell or you can put googly eyes on top of the cake jell.

Now you have a yummy turkey that your kids will want to eat right away.

TURKEY TREAT CANDIES

These cute little turkeys are fun to make and will meet your sweet tooth needs as well. Kids will enjoy making these turkeys made with candy and they will enjoy eating them also.

Supplies to make candy turkey

  1. Googly eyes

  2. Pipe cleaners (orange, yellow, red, and brown)

  3. Ribbon or jute twine

  4. Your choice of candy (we are using Reese’s pieces) M&M’s or skittles could be used instead if your children prefer.

  5. Tulle

Step 1- Cut tulle into 9 ½ squares (note don’t use cheesecloth) as you will see in my pics. It tears easily.

I tried it cause that’s what I had on hand. Tulle should work much better.

Step-2 Place tulle in a cup or glass for support and fill with candy. Bunch of the top of bag after filling.

Step-4 Tie it with ribbon or jute twine.

Step-4 Cut your pipe cleaners small to create the beak and comb.

Step-5 Fold an orange pipe cleaner in half and wrap around a brown pipe cleaner for beak and comb.

Step 6- Add googly eyes to the pipe cleaner or to the top of the tulle. You can use glue or if you want it to be food grade. We used cake jell. It worked nicely just like glue and safe around the candy that you know, want last very long.

Step 7- Cut pieces of pipe cleaners and shape into turkey feet and put through the tulle or just sit under him for a decoration on the table.

So here we have it. 4 fun activities the kids can make for Thanksgiving. There are fun paper activities and eatable activities.

These are sure to keep the kids busy for hours and have fun doing it.

My kids did these Thanksgiving activities and it felt like it took hours to do it.

Well, it really doesn’t. Though, my 6 kids and I were doing it, while I was also taking pics for this blog post. So that made it a bit longer.

Though we had a great time doing it.

I hope you enjoyed these fun activities.

If you did, I have a free turkey body, feathers, and beak you can download to use as a pattern for the turkeys.

Also, we have a free Thanksgiving Word search you can download today.

Download yours for free.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. I am going to be with all 8 of my kids and grand kids this year. I am looking forward to spending time together.
