Throw the Perfect Little House on the Prarie Birthday Party for Your Teen

Sharing is Caring

Hi guys, it seems forever since I wrote a blog post.  You might have thought I was an M-I-A blogger.  Sorry for the big gap.

Today’s blog post will talk about Little House on the Prarie birthday parties.

I have enjoyed Little House on the Prarie since I was a little girl and still do. I have just enjoyed the wholesome family life that Little House brings.

It’s hard to find fun, safe, family programs today.  I enjoy watching Little House on the Prairie with my daughters.

My oldest, as well as my youngest daughter, still enjoy watching the show today.

Yesterday, I did a birthday party for my teen daughter. She is fixing to turn 14, and still really enjoys the Little House series.

When trying to decide the theme that I should do, one of my sons suggested doing Little House on the Prairie.

Now, my daughter can sit and watch Little House on the Prairie for hours. I figured it would be a great hit since she enjoys the show so much.

I wanted to share some tips on what we did for her party.  As well as, other ideas that you could use for your own Little House-themed party.

If your daughter likes Little House on the Prairie like mine, then she will love a birthday party themed around her favorite TV show!

I have put together some tips and ideas to help you throw the perfect Little House-themed party for your daughter.

This will give you a good start for a fun-filled day, from decorations to food and games.

If you really want to get creative, you could even wear costumes and dress as they did.  Younger kids love dressing up.

Deciding on Food Ideas

I didn’t go with traditional food choices. Since I don’t think chips and Domino’s Pizza were on their farm table menus. However, we drank lemonade, which would have been a drink at that time. Admittedly, though I got that information from the Little House on the Prarie show itself. Though, I researched it out just to make sure it was accurate.

My husband is always saying I took my history from what was on the show. That is probably not a good idea.

While we didn’t keep everything to tradition, this is what we did to have a Little House party.

Here is what I come up with, for keeping it like that time.

Foods People ate in Little House on the Prarie Time

Porridge

•Biscuits with honey or molasses

•Fresh fruits, vegetables, and root veggies

•Boiled eggs

•Whole grain bread with butter and syrup or jams

•Potato pancakes

•Stewed venison

•Wild turkey or game hens

•Maple syrup and nut candies

Sandwiches They May Have Eaten

•Ham and cheese sandwiches

•Potted meats on crackers

•Fishcakes made from fresh-caught fish

•Egg salad sandwiches with mayonnaise

•Currant jelly served over bread or biscuits

Now while you may not want to have fishcakes.  Keeping it in tradition, you could do sandwiches of your choice.

Maybe have some boiled eggs on the side.

However, by the mid-1800s popcorn would have been a choice.

Drinks to Serve at Your Party

•Lemonade

•Herbal tea

•Homemade root beer

•Elderberry juice or elderflower cordial

•Apple juice

•Freshly-squeezed orange juice

Decorating and Setting Up the Party Venue

When it comes to decorating for a Little House on the Prarie-themed party, you want to recreate a cozy atmosphere. A few ideas include:

•Hang up a large wagon wheel with the classic “Little House” logo on it

•Set up old-fashioned furniture like rocking chairs and wooden tables

•Include plenty of lanterns and candles

•String up some glass jars filled with wildflowers

•Create an outdoor space and have the party outside if possible

Play Little House on the Prarie-themed music in the background

Games they would have played in the 1800s

  • Checkers and Chess
  • Domino’s
  • Pick up some sticks
  • Button Button- A form of hot potato
  • Paper dolls
  • Jacks
  • Potatoe Sack Races

Party Favors

To finish off your daughter’s special day, give each of her guests a little something to remember the party by. Some cute and creative ideas for Little House-themed party favors include:

•Miniature wagons with a small bouquet of wildflowers

•A jar of homemade honey or molasses

•Mason jars filled with homemade jams and jellies

•Miniature lanterns

•Sachets filled with herbs

•Handmade patchwork scarfs

Now that might sound like some strange party favors. It was a different time, and they couldn’t run to Walmart for toys.

Besides, the things they would have had in that time would have tended to be more on the practical side.

Anyways these party favors definitely make the party memorable.

How We Planned Our Day

Food and Drinks

As I said already, I decided to make it easy on myself and just order pizza.  After all, I have another birthday party to plan right behind hers.

We did have lemonade.  I would love to say it was freshly squeezed but it wasn’t.  Just plain old powdered lemonade.  The kids didn’t seem to mind though, it was sucked down in no time.

I have a set of Pioneer Woman glass pictures and one of my kids made lemonade in these for an authentic look.

I tried to find the set I have on Amazon and these were as close as I could find.

Homemade Cake

My 3rd child and 2nd to the oldest son, did you get all that?  My 20-year-old son has always enjoyed baking since he was a little boy.

I am blessed to have a baker in the house.  Before he did it, it was my oldest daughter. So I haven’t had to bake a cake, in I don’t even know how long.

He not only bakes them but he is good at coming up with creative ideas.  That isn’t necessarily my gift in life.

However, he wanted to make it with the Pepperidge Farms Pirouette Pretzels, but they just would not hold up.  So he ended up using mostly Little Debbie’s Nutty Buddy wafers.

There are pretzels in the corners to hold the roof up.

He attempted to make a log cabin and a wagon.  It was hard to find horses.  So animal crackers had to do.  She loved it.

How we decorated for our Little House theme

We found these red checked table clothes, plates, and matching tassels at Walmart.

We then purchased some red utensils to go along with the colors.

I also bought this banner seen on the back wall at Walmart.  Even though it didn’t really match, it looked like bandana patterns.  I thought it would have worked in that era.

For many of the items that I used, I just shopped around my house.

I love lanterns and the wagon wheel that I have on the wall, I keep out in front of my mailbox.

Do we have a farm-style home?  NO!  Yet, I love that style of decor.  So decorating for this party was so much fun for me.

I think it is from years of watching the show.

I have a white lantern over by the bread box which I got for Christmas one year.  Along with the utensil holder and coffee, tea, and sugar set.

I have a couple of metal buckets that I just love to decorate with.  I didn’t have any material so I just threw a scarf in the basket.

I was thinking of how they would have been crocheting in those days.  That was what I was trying to make it look like.

I saw on Pinterest how they would decorate with Little House on the Prarie books.

I don’t personally have the collection.  Though I wish I did.  However, I am wanting to get the DVDs for my daughter.

Anyways, my son checked this book out at the library.  It looked really nice sitting on the table at my snack bar.

When my daughter was younger she wanted a little house on the prairie outfit. She has since outgrown the costume but still has it.

I went into her room and hunted for it, after all, I was trying to surprise her. So I couldn’t ask her for it.

I used the bonnet and apron for part of the decor.

I had some other rustic or farm-looking items around the kitchen.

I also hung green streamers from the wall. I thought it brought a little more color to the room.

I told my daughter that it was the prairie.

To finish off the decorating, I had pictures printed at the library because my printer was down and put them on the wall. Those were in color.

The black and white pictures I used for a birthday card.  I put the black and white photos on stock paper.  I glued them down and hole-punched them.

Then I used jute string to hold them together.  I then had everyone sign the community card.
